“Allergies & Sinus Health”
Respiratory and environmental allergies are increasing in the developed world, with a prevalence as high as 30% in some areas.
Allergies frequently cause nasal and sinus inflammation, which can affect smell and taste directly or indirectly (for example, mouth breathing dries saliva and mucus membranes, which changes normal oral flora and potentially taste, etc.). Patients with allergies and sinus inflammatory are also more likely to have or eventually develop asthma.
There is a significant overlap of symptoms caused by the inflammation from allergies, versus a cold or bacterial sinusitis. We will discuss the best ways to differentiate them, and how to treat each type of problem. Avoiding antibiotics unless needed will help maintain the natural microbiome, which is important for nasal and breathing function. There are several ways to manage chronic nose and sinus inflammation and improve sinus health, including natural and medicinal treatments, and diet can also play an important role.
Dr. Stewart and Chef David Bouley teamed up for “Cooking for RECOVERY” a cooking class demonstration and health presentation on the topic of recovering from surgery, marathon, strenuous excercise, this March in Bouley at Home.

Dr. Stewart’s clinical practice is general otolaryngology, and he has particular interest in nose and sinus disease, sleep breathing disorders, and head and neck trauma.
He is the author of 2 textbooks, as well as more than 30 book chapters and 120 peer-reviewed publications. He is named one of New York magazine’s Best Doctors from 2007-2018 and is named to Castle Connolly America’s Top Doctors from 2007-2018.

This immersive dining and educational culinary experience is part of Bouley’s “The Chef and the Doctor” series, featuring world-renowned doctors and Chef David Bouley. Each event begins with a reception featuring passed canapés and a specialty health tonic cocktail, followed by a wellness-inspired five course dinner with wine pairings created by Chef David Bouley.
