FRESH is an acronym that represents Dr. Graham’s five ingredients for health: Food – Relaxation – Exercise – Sleep – Happiness. Dr. Graham will discuss the origins of FRESH Med, an Integrative Medicine practice that combines the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies, clinical nutrition, functional medicine, yoga, positive psychology and health coaching. FRESH Med has one goal—to make you healthier, one letter at a time….

In 431 BC, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Nearly 2,000 years later, most doctors don’t prescribe food as medicine. Over the past 30 years, as foods became more convenient and processed, we’ve only gotten fatter and sicker. Sadly, fad diets and food trends have misshapen the way we eat—and unfortunately—the way we look and feel. Isn’t it time for a FRESH start?

Did you know, “Rx” often referred to as prescription, is actually Latin for recipe? FRESH Med is your prescription and recipe to health. FRESH is an acronym that represents Dr. Graham’s five ingredients to health: Food – Relaxation – Exercise – Sleep – Happiness. Dr. Graham believes when it comes to health “it all starts with Food!” He will share his “bakers dozen” FRESH food tips that will help his patients, friends and family make small, sustainable and healthy lifestyle changes, one meal at a time. Chef Doctor Robert E. Graham, MD, MPH, ABOIM, FACP, is the Co–Founder of FRESH Medicine. Dr. Graham is a Harvard-trained physician, board certified in both Internal and Integrative Medicine, a public health scientist, TEDx speaker, food activist and Chef. Dr. Graham received his medical degree from the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University Medical Center and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital. He earned a Masters of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health while completing three fellowships in General Internal Medicine, Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies and Medical Education at Harvard Medical School. One of less than twenty doctor/chefs worldwide, he obtained his culinary degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute.

A Swami once said, “Dr. Graham will tell you what to eat to be healthy, (he prescribes food), but also how to grow it and how to cook it.” -Swami Ramananda.

Dr. Graham a leader in the field of Integrative Medicine has prescribed “food as medicine” for over 10 years, has taught over 500 healthcare workers, mostly doctors, how to cook whole food plant-based meals, created the first edible rooftop garden on a hospital in NYC and is the founder of FRESH Med, an integrative health and wellness center. FRESH is an acronym for their five ingredients for health: Food, Relaxation, Exercise, Sleep and Happiness.

When not seeing patients, he trades his white lab coat for chef’s whites with the goal of expanding his toolkit both for use as a healthcare provider and as an advocate for a new model of integrative, “food-first” lifestyle-focused healthcare, called Culinary Medicine. He is currently writing his first book, A FRESH Recipe for Health.

Dr. Graham is an international speaker and has appeared on NBC Today Show, Fox, ABC, CBS News, NY1 and is regularly quoted in the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, SHAPE, TIME, Daily News, NY Post, MindBodyGreen, FoodTank, Washington Post, SHAPE, Men’s Health, Yahoo News and WebMD.

This immersive dining and educational culinary experience is part of Bouley’s “The Chef and the Doctor” series, featuring world-renowned doctors and Chef David Bouley.
